Become Informed
Kootenay Lake is a remarkable natural treasure - ecologically rich, culturally meaningful, and central to the way of life in our region. Protecting its water, wildlife, and shoreline takes passion, curiosity, and action from people like you.
We work closely with community partners dedicated to improving the health and stewardship of Kootenay Lake through education, volunteer-powered science, habitat restoration, and community outreach. Together, we help connect residents, stakeholders, and lake enthusiasts with opportunities to learn, contribute, and make a real impact.
Here’s how you can help:
Volunteer Your Time
Join local lake stewardship events at FOKLSS, CKISS, and KCP (more details below). Support outreach at community festivals and markets, or help with data collection and restoration activities. Volunteers make these efforts possible and help share knowledge about why lake health matters.
Attend Events & Presentations
Take part in educational presentations and workshops that explore topics like water quality, local wildlife, and how everyday decisions influence the lake’s future. These events are designed to inspire and equip community members with useful insights.
Support Outreach and Education
Your involvement — whether through spreading the word, engaging in workshops, or helping us reach more people — amplifies awareness of stewardship practices and fosters a stronger, informed community working for a healthier lake.
